ALA puts up a MySpace page

SLISLabLib staffer Becky Yoose notes:
If you have a MySpace page, you can now add ALA to your "Top 8" list! You can view ALA's MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/atyourlibrary. Take a look at the "Top 8" and see if you recognize any of the libraries there...

WisCon (Feminist Science Fiction Convention) Pre-registration Open

WisCon happens in Madison, Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-28, 2007. It's a hugely popular event and will fill. A brief description from their homepage:
"This is the world's leading feminist science fiction convention. WisCon encourages discussion and debate of ideas relating to feminism, gender, race and class. WisCon welcomes writers, editors and artists whose work explores these themes as well as their many fans. We have panel discussions, academic presentations, and readings as well as many other uncategorizable events. WisCon is primarily a book-oriented convention... with an irrepressible sense of humor."

Attend WI Library Legislation Day Jan 23

I strongly encourage SLIS students to practice library/archives advocacy now and take this convenient (early in the semester, just up the street) opportunity to join librarians and other information professionals, trustees, and friends from around the state who will show up to speak with our state legislators. It's a great opportunity to network as well as get briefed on current issues and just see a legislative day in action. More information and registration forms at:
http://www.wla.lib.wi.us/legis/day/

Register by Friday, Dec. 29th. Talk to me if you're going. I would be happy to meet up with people there.
