Some Friday Fun!

This video was featured on Stephen's Lighthouse, showing how libraries (and laughter) transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries.  Hope everyone has had a good start to the semester!

Library Legislative Day!

Mark February 22 on your calendars, SLISers, and plan to attend Library Legislative Day at the Concourse Hotel on the square!  Library Legislative Day is a day during the year when librarians, directors, and library enthusiasts descend upon our capitol to advocate for their libraries to state legislators.  It's a great opportunity for networking and professional development (as advocacy is a huge part of our profession).

Make sure to register and attend some of the sessions!  Voice your support for libraries' programming and funding!

Welcome back!

Happy new year! And welcome to spring semester.  We have several new staff, SLIS masters students, Erinn Batykefer, Jonathan Carlson and Steven Lange.  We're still busy finishing up SLIS ereserves.  If you discover problems, please let us know. A SLIS Library Workshop series is  running over the next several weeks, starting this Friday with Walker Evans offering a hands-on introduction to Koha (the open source ILS that South Central Library System is bringing up next month).  And looking ahead, please put February 9 on your calendar to catch KT Horning giving a talk in the Commons at 5 pm - “Can Children’s Books Save the World?” Behind the scenes at the Arbuthnot Lecture.
